Welcome to October

Welcome to October.
It's supposed to be
a very happy month,
filled with falling leaves
and frosty smelling air,
pumpkin picking,
and brisk walks
in the crisp dusk air,
children laughing,
playing in the dying sun,
trick or treating,
candy apples,
ghost stories,
the ancient tradition of samhain,
the day of the dead,
the time when the veils
between this world and the next
grow thin and wither,
and pennies.
And here you are,
crying in the first hour
of October.
Are you crying for the entire month,
or is it a portent
of what is to be?
Welcome to October.
