Girl in the Darkness

Girl in the darkness
tries to find meaning in her music;
fails.
She changes the CD
hoping it'll be these words that speak to her soul,
but they don't.
None ever do.
Girl in the darkness
kisses the stars goodbye,
kisses herself, her past, goodbye;
becomes an empty husk
of her old self.
She finds no salvation in the darkness.
Girl in the darkness
lays down on a bed of eggshells,
thinks nothing of nothing
and doesn't answer the telephone.
She sighes to breathe,
she sobs to cry,
and finds no saving grace in the darkness.
