Best Day

A blue sky
And green grass
A warm summer breeze
Children's laughter
Sounds across the park
You reach over
And flick the annoying piece of hair
Out of my eyes
With such tenderness
My heart is full of joy
As yours is, I suppose
But suddenly the sky darkens
And the grass turns brown and dies
The breeze turns cold
Children stop to look
As we do, too
The sun has taken cover
Behind a darkened cloud
The children do the same
Running to find their mothers
We cling to each other
As we gaze upon this anomaly
Is today our final day?
It sure looks so
Today, a day that started so perfectly,
A day for picnics,
Is the best day
To die.
